Prepped commercial warehouse floor showing levelled substrate ready for coating — King of Seal Sydney

SURFACE PREP · SYDNEY METRO

Surface Preparation The Foundation of Every Floor

Professional substrate preparation for coatings, polished concrete, and floor systems. Grinding, crack repair, contaminant removal, moisture testing — ready-to-coat handover with documented profile.

WHAT IS SURFACE PREP

Everything That Happens
Before The Coating Goes On.

Surface preparation is the complete process of getting a substrate ready to receive a new coating, sealer, or floor system. It includes diamond grinding, shot blasting (for heavy industrial prep), crack repair, joint sealing, contaminant removal, moisture testing, and profile assessment. Without proper surface prep, even the best floor coating will fail.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Six Steps To A Ready-To-Coat Slab

Initial assessment

Substrate type, age, condition, contamination, moisture. Tells us what method, what tooling, what timeline.

Mechanical preparation

Diamond grinding, shot blasting, or scarifying depending on the system going down and the substrate condition.

Crack & joint repair

Epoxy crack filler, patch and anchor work, joint sealants. Cracks treated before any coating goes on.

Contaminant removal

Oil/grease cleaning, salt contamination treatment, efflorescence removal. The slab leaves prep chemically clean.

Moisture testing

For slabs where vapour transmission could compromise the coating — tested with hygrometer or calcium-chloride method.

Final inspection

Confirming CSP profile matches the specified coating system. Documented handover with photos and notes.

WHO IT'S FOR

Hand It Over Ready

If you're a builder, property manager, or tradie planning to apply your own coating, polished concrete contractor, tiler, or vinyl installer — we can prep the substrate professionally and hand it over ready for your finish. Includes a documented profile assessment so you know exactly what you're working with.

STANDARDS

Industry standards we work to

AS 3958.1 (Tiles — substrate prep requirements). ICRI CSP guidelines (Concrete Surface Profile 1–9). AS 3740 (where waterproofing follows). Profile is delivered to the standard appropriate for the system going on top.
